About The Center of Infectious Disease Excellence

The CIDE was established in 2006 by David L. Smith M.D.

The Center is located next to River Oaks Hospital near Lakeland Drive in Jackson, Mississippi.

Dr. Smith has been providing specialized  infectious disease prevention,care and treatment for corporations, hospitals,  individuals and families for over 30 years. He also serves as a consultant to hospitals and institutions across the country.

Dr. Smith currently serves as Hospital Epidemiologist for River Oaks and Woman’s Hospital. He also serves as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at The University of Mississippi School of Medicine.

The Art of the Individual

We want every patient to know that their individual uniqueness is appreciated in our office.   In that spirit, we have included some of our very own unique treasures to share within our office space.  Many of our patients have asked that we make some of our office artwork available online.  Here are some samples from our office collection of eclectic photos, art pieces and collectibles.

The photographs,posters,and paintings in our gallery celebrate several major themes:

1.Mississippi–It’s Art,Literature and Music

a.Music-

1.Elvis—Rare Posters,Including one of Elvis and BB King-recently autographed by BB.Original art by The Reverend Johnny Ace.Elvis doing a public service by getting a polio shot.

2.Blues-Photographs of Mississippi Blues Masters such as Muddy Waters and BB King,Posters showing the distribution of Blues artists in our state.

b.Art–Original paintings by Lucy Hunnicutt,Lauren Shuler and The Reverend Johnny Ace.

2.National and International works which promote Peace and Understanding and the Beauty of our World and It’s People as well as homage to musicians such as John Lennon and Professor Longhair.

a.The Wildlife photographs of Thomas Mangelson–the Worlds Premier Wildlife photographer.These photographs along with a poster of Ghandi autographed by his grandson–are in our Travel Medicine Suite.Other smaller photographs by Mangelson adorn the other examination rooms.

b.Pictures taken by Dr. Smith and his wife  Bette of different locations including Strawberry Fields(the Monument to John Lennon) in New York City.

c.Quotations by William Faulkner and Bertrand Russell.

WHAT YOU WILL NOT FIND –BLARING TV’S TURNED TO THE ESCAPADES OF JERRY SPRINGER AND SUCH. WE PROVIDE A WIDE VARIETY OF READING MATERIAL FOR OUR PATIENTS AS THEY WAIT. SOFT MUSIC SUCH AS GOSPELS BY GEORGE JONES OR ELVIS PROVIDE A QUIET AND RESPECTFUL ATMOSPHERE.
